Most plants only produce several hundred seeds, but weeds are especially prolific. One single weed can produce anywhere from 10,000 to over 100,000 seeds. With these odds, it's easy to see how weeds can quickly take over your garden or lawn if left untreated.
There are three important rules to follow when seeding a lawn: high quality seed should always be used; the seed has to make good contact with the soil; and enough water has to be supplied to assure germination and establishment.
Weeds deprive desirable plants of needed water, light and soil nutrients. Often unsightly, they can also scratch and irritate skin, aggravate allergies and even harbor insects and disease. The best way to remove these weeds is to spray regularly timed applications during the growing season.
Ticks tend to populate areas that are heavily saturated with tall grass. They cling to the grass and then make the transfer to an unsuspecting host when the host passes by.
The star-nosed mole is extremely active throughout the winter. It has been known to form tunnels through snow and even swim under the ice of frozen ponds.
